History:

Kendra, the granddaughter of the Golden Age adventurer Speed Saunders and grandneice of the first Hawkman and Hawkwoman, had a troubled childhood when growing up, following the death of her parents when she was sixteen, and spent most of the next three years living in several youth facilities. Rather than really live in those said facilities, she took refuge upon the streets, being found eventually by her grandpa Speed, who became her legal guardian and helped her regain some stability, and she subsequently fulfilled her childhood dream of being as a film student.

But her troubles were not over, and at age seventeen(?), she tried to commit suicide and was rushed to the hospital, where she died. Or so it seemed. Ten minutes after she was pronounced dead, she began breathing again, having miraculously returned to life. Speed saw that her eyes had turned from green to brown, and realized that she'd become reincarnation of Sheira Hall/princess Chay-Ara. Since she still maintained many of Kendra's own thoughts and personality, she still thought of herself as such, and Speed, realizing that a reincarnation of Carter/Khufu could also be coming soon, decided that it was probably not his duty to tell Kendra the truth about herself as of now. But he most certainly did tell her about her family history and trained her for taking up the mantle of Hawkgirl.

On her 19th birthday, having spent some time training, she got a frantic call from her grandfather who told her to get ready for action. He'd just witnessed the death of the first Sandman, Wesley Dodds, at the hands of Dark Lord Mordru, and knew that in order to defeat Mordru, the Justice Society would need to reband, and that Kendra's future would be closely tied to the JSA. Following her success in their first mission in 1999, which was to rescue an infant who was the incarnation of Hector Hall, from the clutches of Mordru, she's become a valuble asset to them ever since.

Kendra learned that her suicide attempt had actually succeeded and that the soul now inhabiting her body was that of her great aunt Sheira, after Carter himself returned from the dead. Since the majority of the memories and personality she retains is that of Kendra, she finds it difficult to connect to those of Sheira. She took up residence in Louisiana when Carter moved there as well, but unlike their past lives, these days they're just good friends in the relationship they lead.

Kendra has a daughter named Mia (the father does not seem to have been revealed yet), whom she put up for adoption some time ago. She's spoken with her at times, but has kept her being related to Mia a secret.
